Skin Disease

Skin is the largest organ in your body, skin acts as a barrier between the inside of your body and the outside world. It protects you from infection, keeps your body temperature stable, prevents injury by sensing pain and allows you to feel the world around you through your sense of touch. The skin reflects and reacts to imbalances within the body’s internal landscape and the effects of the environment. Internal disharmonies caused by strong emotions, diet, and your constitution, as well as environmental influences such as wind, dryness, dampness, and heat, can all contribute to the development of a skin disorder. The skin disorder including acne, eczema, psoriasis, perioral dermatitis, rash, itch and others.

Conventional Skin Disease Treatment

Western medicine the most common treatment for skin disease is applying Steroid cream to the affected area. This stops the redness and itching, but does nothing to treat the underlying cause of skin disease. Once you stop using the Steroid cream, your symptoms will often return. Prolonged use of Steroid cream can lead to more problems such as thinning of the skin. Although Steroid creams are effective for treating the symptoms of skin disease, they do not offer a permanent solution.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can be very effective at treating skin conditions. Treatments can provide quick relief for acute symptoms and significant and lasting relief from recurrent or chronic skin conditions.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can offer a safe and natural alternative. Because they take into account symptoms throughout the whole body as well as on the skin’s surface, they provide holistic solution to skin disease, aiming to treat common skin condition from the inside & out.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for Skin Diseases

Thousands year old of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture can be used to treat a wide variety of common skin disorders. According to the Chinese Medical theories, the healthy skin can be viewed as a balance within the body's internal landscape and the environment and the skin diseases are often caused by both internal and external factors. The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) indicated that physical, emotional, and environmental factors are the key factor s in the skin disease.

The lack of Qi and blood, or environmental influences, such as wind, dryness, dampness, and heat are the main causes in Skin diseases. Furthermore, Stress and bad diet may contribute to skin disorders.

Most skin problems are inflammatory responses, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, perioral dermatitis, rash, itch and others, all these infections are auto-immune systems that occur due to inflammations in the blood vessels. The Diseases are treated by inserting needles on different parts of the body on the acupuncture points.
Acupuncture is excellent for reducing inflammation. Additionally, acupuncture can improve circulation and boost the production of collagen, making it an effective skin treatment to prevent wrinkles and other signs of aging.

How Acupuncture Helps with Skin Disease?

Chinese Medicine is interested primarily in restoring balance to the body by manipulating the flow of chi, or life energy. This is the purpose of needles in acupuncture, and it can be very effective in treating a variety of skin conditions.
By affecting hormone(glucocorticoids) levels and improving circulation, acupuncture treatments have been shown to be effective in reducing inflammation and autoimmune responses, which are at the root of many skin conditions. Acupuncture can also decrease emotional stress and improve your sleep. It can help detoxify your body and regulate cortisol levels, acting as a preventative measure against flare-ups.

Similarly, acupuncture can help to boost collagen production, resulting in firmer and more elastic skin. This makes skin rejuvenation and wrinkle prevention a popular use for acupuncture at our clinic.

Acupuncture benefits for your skin:

  • Reduces inflammation, pain or itch
  • Improves circulation
  • Regulates hormone levels
  • .Balances the immune system

  • Relieves stress

Skin disease:

-Psoriasis: This is a non-infectious skin disease characteristic by irregularly shaped, s lightly raised red patches with a scaly surface. Elbow, knees and the scalp are the area more likely to be affected. If acupuncture treatment is carried out for prolonged period, there will be a noticeable improvement.

-Eczema (Dermatitis): This is a non-specific condition arising from the inflammation of the skin, not primarily due to any infection, but usually as a result of an allergic reaction in sensitive subjects to substances such as certain foods, and to contact with certain chemicals either directly on the skin or by inhalation. It could also be precipitated by heat, cold, dampness and sunlight. Emotional disturbances also play a part. Initially the eczema may start with a rash and severe itching. Then the skin breaks out in small vesicles which then rupture and an exudate forms (“weeping eczema”). At this stage the skin may become infected with bacteria. Pruritus (itching) and subsequent scratching is liable to spread the infection. The skin may dry up and cracks may appear, or there may be formation of pustules. In chronic stage the skin is dry and flaky and may become thickened. The itching and burning sensation may however continue. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, eczema is caused by heat, wind, and dampness and this disorder can be treated effectively with acupuncture. The main aim of acupuncture treatment is to clear heat, dispel the wind and dampness, and move the blood.

-Acne:s Acne is a common skin disorder among the young patients which on certain occasions c ontinues into adulthood. In conventional Western medicine, the pathology of acne is generally associated with hormonal changes, bacterial infection and oily skin. While in Traditional Chinese Medicine it is usually associated with dampness, heat, and in severe cases blood stagnation. In acupuncture treatment, once the dampness and heat are cleared from the system, the skin will also clear.

Preventative Therapy

In general, acupuncture works best as a preventative therapy and as part of whole-body wellness. Regular sessions will help to reduce your stress levels, providing you with more energy and a better immune system. I have consistent Acne problem for years due to imbalanced hormone. Dr Yang has helped on the problem a lot. Right after the first acupuncture by Dr. Yang, my facial skin color changed from dull to radiant. I was very amazed by the changes of my facial skin. Thank you, Dr. Yang!

I have had facial seborrheic dermatitis for years and have seen a number of dermatologists. The usual treatment prescribed is topical steroids as well as other ointments and creams that you really don't want to put on your face. While they helped initially, they stopped having an effect and I was unable to control flare ups. I was skeptical about acupuncture but was so frustrated that I made an appointment at Dr. Yang Acupuncture after getting a friend's recommendation. I scheduled a series of 5 sessions. After the second treatment I started noticing improvement in redness and itching. Dr. Yang spoke to me about diet and advised me to make some changes which could be contributing to the condition. My condition improved greatly thanks to Dr. Yang. I was also terrified of the needles but Dr. Yang was very attentive to this and I was comfortable during the treatments. I highly recommend giving Energy Body Acupuncture clinic a try! Thank you, Dr. Yang.

Been seeing a dermatologist for years for my psoriasis and had only topical creams to help relieve the pain/inflammation but I wanted to limit the use of steroid creams. So recently I decided to try out acupuncture since it flared up more. Only after 6 sessions with Dr. Yang there was a difference. My psoriasis had flattened and I was no longer itchy. I don't even feel the need to use any of my topical creams but regular moisturizing lotion. I'm so happy I found this place!
